Crooks, Labor candidate, elected for Woolwich, polled 8687. His opponent, Drags, secured 5419. The Times states that Crooks’ huge majority is disquieting, and indicates that a spectre which has hypnotised Continental Governments has appeared in Great Britain. The Standard says the result is almost startling. The contest was fought deliberately on Labor policies, including shorter hours and larger wages. Tho Daily News says the election is a thunderstorm and the greatest triumph for progress on record. Tho Trades Union Congress in London congratulated Crooks on his victory. Mr Thorne said it was an answer to those judges giving decisions antagonistic to the unions. Mr Stedman declared that no living Liberal could have won the seat.
