One hundred and fourteen Unionist mombers of the House of Commons interviewed the Archbishops of Canterbury and York respecting the unrest in the Church owing to lack of discipline. The Archbishop of Canterbury, replying, said tho deputation were right in desiring a decision to restrain extreme ritual teaching. Cases of flagrant, defiant illegality wor efew, and were chiefly confined to tho diocosos of London, Chicboster, and Exeter. Many other cases came very near tho lino. The matter was engaging the Bishop’s attention. Where episcopal authority was defined, stern and drastic action was essential. The laity were often more responsible for vagaries and extravagance than tho clergy. The Archbishop of York insisted on the neod of extending the powers and authority of bishops. _____
