ROWING.
GISBORNE ROWING CLUB,
[By “Reefer.”]
There was a large attendance of spectators in tho vicinity of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s shed last evening to witness the continuation of tho trial competition for tho President’s (Mr A. F. Kennedy’s) trophies. Tho interest taken in the race last evening was unusual, and in addition to the numbers which lined the river banks and crowded the landing stages at the boat sheds, the Whataupoko bridge provided a coign of vantage for many onlookers. The cheering at the finishes could bo hoard for a considerable distance, and made the welkin ring. The competing crews wore : L. Williams str, Dr Fisher 3, E. Adair 2, F. Shaw bow, M. Doyle cox, and R. Robinson str, C. Hamilton 3, B. Tanner 2, J. W. Wells bow, R. Warren cox.
From a fair start both crews jumpod off the mark and kept level for about the first cevon strokes, after which Williams gradually forged ahead, with Robinson grafting hard in the rear. Williams took no chances and rowed “ all out ” from start to finish, and succeeded in winning comfortably. This evening the final will be rowed, when Williams’ crew will meet Buscke’s, and judging by the form displayed by the latter crew in a previous race, they should prove a formidable enemy. Buscke’s crew should bo. the triumphant one this evening.
