BOWLING.
Thoro was a largo attendaneo at the Gisborno Bowling Club's green yesterday afternoon, and some interesting matches wore played. The groon was in first class order, drawing well on both hands, and reflected great credit upon the caretaker, Mr F. Tansley, who has been most assiduous in his efforts to get the ground in ordor. In viow of tho match with Hastings on Saturday, sorno fast and exciting play may bo witnessed. The following are the details of the afternoon’s play : Messrs A. Clark and Son’s Trophy. F. Pettie A. Adair C. Adair Nicholas Matthewson W. Pettio Gaudin, skip 18 Sirnson, skip 17 This game was one of tho most keenly - contested seen on the green for some time. Simson’s team got away with the lead, having five to their opponents nil. Gaudin’s team rallied, and on the ninth head the scores were even. The latter got a lead of several points, but this was reduced by Sirnson, who had a point to the good on the twentieth head. In the concluding head, Sirnson just failed with bis last shot, and lost the match by a point, a third party having to be called in to decide which bowl was lying.
