SATURDAY’S MATCH.
(To the Editor Gisborne Times*.)
Sir, —In Wednesday’s issue appeared an advertisement notifying that play in the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay cricket match would commence at Ormond at 10 a.in. sharp on Saturday, while a paragraph announces that a brake with the visiting team is to leave the Masonic at 10.10 ; ergo, play will not commence before noon. Please let us know which notification to go by ; because we don’t want to miss two hours’ play if the advertisement is correct by waiting for the brake, and we don’t want to kick our heels about for nothing for a couple of hours if the paragraph is right. It strikes mo that if play does not commence before noon, and is to be followed by a dinnpr in the Ormond Hall at 1 o’clock, and tea about 4, that what ought to, be tho best match of the season will fizzle into a picnic. I hope the players will oome out hy the first train, alight at Mr Bruce’s gate, and bo prepared to commence not later than 10.30.—1 am, etc., F. O. Leggett. [Wo are pleased to see that Mr Leggett is as keen an onthusiast in cricket as over. A local match without Mr Leggett would bo like “ Hamlet ” without the ghost. He has a paternal eye on cricketers whether they be playing tost matches at Lord’s ' or wrestling with tho Englishmen in Westland. Mr Leggett need have no concern for to-morrow’s big match at Ormond. Both the advertisement and the paragraph to which ho refers were correct. The paragraph did not state that a brake with the visiting team would leave town at 10.15, but that 5 speoial brake would leave a.t that hour. We can assure Mr Leggett that play will start at 10 a.ni.—Ed. Times.]
