Christchurch, last night

At tho University Senato this morning, a letter was read from tho Education Department re selecting a candidate for tho Rhodes’ scholarship, and was referred to tho Select Committee on matriculation. Biology was divided into two subjects—botany and zoology, and a Select Committee was appointed to mako up tho new syllabus. A motion by tho Rev. Mr Cameron that tho Senate award annually to graduates in scienco and medicine two research scholarships of an annual value of TIOO, and treblo for two years, was lost. The Music Committeo recommended that English bo added to tho list of subjects for intermediate examinations. Tho Music Committee did not recommend that candidates for the Degree of Bachelor of Music bo required to exhibit practical proficiency. The Committee on chemical technology reported that division of tho subject would be impracticable owing to tho limited development of tho chemical -udustry in tho colony.
