The Nelson College .swimming sperts were held to-day, the swimming and diving being of the highest star-dard. K. Boss won the championship. Ae the Nelson Chamber of Commerce annual meeting, Mr ,S. Kirkpatrick, tlm chairman, in his address, referred to the want of inland communication and the possibilities of making the fish industry very important, but it was urgent that a close season for flounders, rock cod, garfish an l oysters be provided for. He
He spoke of the adulteration of wool as lessening the demand for the product and calling for legislation, and li3 also urged the prevention of the adulteration of food. He alluded to
the want of rolling-stock on the railway and the needs- in respect of steamer services. For tile ensuing year, Messrs Bannehr and IT. Fd Wards were elected cliai rman and vicechairman respectively.
