ATTEMPTED MURDER

Wanganui, last night,
Tho Supremo Court was occupied this morning in hoaring the charge of attempted murder of his wifo by Joseph Temperley at Marton on the 3rd November. The cvidenco was not disputed that accused shot his wifo through tho nose and then cut her throat with a razor, when she struggled and rushed out of tho house. Accused then cut his own throat. Both recovorod from thoir wounds, though the bullet in Mrs Tomperlo.y has not yet been traced, though tho medical ovidcnco presumed it hud boon swallowed. Under cross-examination, Dr Skinner stated accusod occasionally suffered from a mild form of simple munia, and that tbo deed was an act of homicidal mania, probably hereditary, ns accused’s brother was sent to an asylum in 1901. The defeuco relies on tho plea of insanity. Later. —At tho Supremo Court to-day Joseph Tcmperloy, charged with tbo attempted murder of his wife, was found not guilty on tbo grounds of boing insane whon bo committed the act. Ho was ordered to bo detained during tho pleasure of tho Colonial Secretary.
