THE LONDON MARKET,

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable message from the Agent-General, dated February 21 The mutton market is weak. A further drop in prices of mutton seems imminent. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4,>d, Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Co.’s 4;!d, other North Island 4 : ',d. The lamb market is steady at from 6,]d to 6,;d. The beef market is very dull. N.Z. hinds are at ojjd, fores 2;;d. There is a better demand for butter. The price of butter to-day is 99s per cwt. The cheese market is steady at 60s. Hemp: Prices are good. Fair Wellington grade to-day is at £32 per ton, January and March shipments £29. The hemp market is speculative in distant deliveries. There is no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market.
