JUDICIAL SCANDAL
WINKING AT GIGANTIC FRAUDS.
By Telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. London, Feb. 20.
A fierce debate occurred in the House of jCommons on Mr Lambert’s amendment to the address-in-repljq regretting the Government’s failure to prosecute the directors of the London and Globe Finance Corporation. Members of the House of Commons with legal experience supported Sir Robert Findlay, the Attorney-General, in his declaration that under existing laws ho was powerless.
Tho House showed itself dissatified with such a condition of things. Mr Balfour promised a Bill to remedy the grave omission, and adequately secure the prosecution of persons responsible for a fraudulent prospectus. Mr Lambert’s amendment was negatived by 1G(! to 115.
There are indications that tho Government were debarred from prosecuting Whittaker Wright, one of the directors, unless they prosecuted the directors collectively, and were satisfied that there were no prospects of a conviction in such a case.
