An amendment to tho Address-in-Reply in the House of Commons moved by Mr Macneil, that Ministers should not act as directors of companies, was negatived by 147 to 109.
Mr Balfour stated that if supporters of the amoudmont had their way public life would not bo purer, but poorer.
