UNIVERSITY SENATE.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. At the University Senate to-day eonsideratiou of the questions mentioned in the Chancellor’s address were taken in committee, and on resuming it was reported that consideration of a letter from Professor Segar, on the subject of science for the junior scholarship examination, was postponed until next year. Application of two junior scholars for allowance for train expenses were refused. The Senate considered that a scholarship grant was not intended to cover such expenses. In reference to a suggestion that candidates should be informed that they were not compelled to write in German character in the answers in examination papers on German, it was resolved that the case could be met by a note on the paper stating that German or English character would be at option of the candidates.
