MASTERTON SHOW.
(Per Press Association^ Masterton, last night. There was a largo attendance at the Masterton show, which opened to-day. The weather was excellent. More entries were received than in any previous year, and the class of stock in most of the sections show a distinct advance. Following were the awards Thoroughbred stallion, McDonald and Duncan’s Conqueror; filly, T. Dorset’s Strathora; mare and foal, Jas. Macara’s Eussley Belle ; trotting stallion, E. Falloon’s. Pony classes : 11. W. Clay, W. A. Pyke, H. A. O’Donnell, C. F. Vallance, A. Tansloy, ,T. P. Perry, J. Colquhoun, and B. It. Eayner were the prize-takers. Draught stallions, Nathan Bros.’ Hereward and Tho Sarpon; colt, M. Gaskin’s Monarch ; fillies, David and Donald McKenzie's entries ; mares, Lenathan Bros.’ entries ; geldings, Donald McKenzie and A. W. Cabe. In purebred Shorthorns tho trustees in the estate of McMasters' and the hfount Herbert Estate took all the principal prizes, the firstnamed securing with Duke of York and Irene the bull and cow championships in grade Shorthorns. The trustees of the late John McMasters practically swept the board in purebred Herefords. Williams and Beetham’s Diamond Jubilee was champion bull calved prior to July, 1899, and Jas. Stuckey’s Amethyst was awarded champion for any aged cow. Moat of the othot' pi'iaes fell to tho same exhibitors, In purebred Ayrshire S. Standen, J. Kyle, and J. W. Luxford secured most of the honors, Duke of York, owned by the first-named, annexing the champion bull. In Jersey and Alderney Cagle and S. E. Lancaster were the chief prize-takers, the latter securing the championship for best cow. S. Stander and S. E. Lancaster got most of the awards in the dairy cattle section. In the fat cattle section the following were the principal prize-takers : Williams and Beetham, W. C. Buchanan (champion bullock), W. McKenzie, H. Holmes, G. W. Mace. Sheep: In Lincolns Perry Broß. practically swept the board, although D. and. W. Kaynor secured tho championship ram. For English Leicester the principal prize-takers were A. E. Gush, J. Cook (champion ram), Perry Bros, (champion ewe), P. C. Threlkeld. In Border Leicester Nelson Bros, carried everything. In Kornney Marsh, Grey Bros, (champion ram), Alex. Matthews, E. S. Hart, McKenzie, G. E. Sykes (champion ewe), W. B. Allen, and A. H. Walker divided honors. In Southdowns, James Stuckey (champion ram and ewo) practically swept the board. In Shropshires, Nelson Bros, (champion ram), H. Willis, John Eayner, Charles Lewis, Williams and Beetham, and Hugh Campbell (champion ewe) secured the principal awards. In Hamp shire Down, all the prizes fell to John Eayner in tho farmers’ classos. In Lincolns, E. Johnston practically swept the board, as did F. M, Eeynolds in the Kornney Marsh section, In long wool or long wool cross, Nelson Bros., Slack Bros., McGregor Bros., and S. K. Lancaster shared the first prizes. Slack Bros, were the principal prizetakers in the pig sections. W. D. Watson secured first for trotting horse, with Eockwood; H. J. Cameron first in the jumping competition, with Mac ; and W. Shannon’s Flirt won the high jump.
