HIS REPLY TO CRITICS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. This afternoon tho Premier was presented with a purso of sovereigns, subscribed by tho citizens of Auckland prior to his doparturo for tho Coronation celebrations in London. A sum of .£629 in a casket was handed over, at the Muni cipal Chambers, by tho Mayor (Mr Alfred Kidd, M.H.R.). Mr Seddon, in reply, touched upon the commouts of the English newspapers regarding tho testimonial. New Zealand papers, ho said, did not say that the extracts they published were from pro-Boer papers, and coming from that quartor he looked upon the remarks as praise.
