Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. The opera “ Tapu,” dealing with Maori life, composed by Mr Alfred Hill, and written by Mr Arthur Adams, both natives of New Zealand, was performed for the first time to-night by the Pollards’ Opera Company. Considerable interest was taken in tho production, which received a very encouraging reception, Mr Hill’s music is generally considered to be admirable, comparing more than favorably : with that of many operas produced of late years.
