DOMESTIC TRAGEDY

A tragedy occurred at Darlinghurst this afternoon. Charles Humphreys shot his wifo, inflicting serious wounds on tho cheek and neck, and then blow out his own brains. He had been drinking heavily. The woman will probably recover. A DRUNKEN BRUTE. HIS CONDUCT TO HIS WIFE.

Mrs Humphreys led an unhappy lifo owing to tho drunken habits and ill-usage of hor husband, who last night, under tho influence of drink, threatened to shoot his wife. She fled to a neighbor’s residence.
In tho morning the quarrel was resumed on tho verandah. Suddenly he fired two shots at his wife, both taking effect. Thon he committed suicide.
Humphreys was an ex-guardsman, and ived soruo timo in New Zealand.
