HOTEL FIRE.
(Per Press Association)* Invercargill, last night. Descblcr’s Hotel, occupied by Mr Horace Bastings, one of tbe largest in Invercargill, was partially destroyed by fire at S o'clock this morning. The fire was discovered by a boarder in an unoccupied bedroom, which was ablaze when ho opened the door. The alarm was promptly given, and the inmates made a hasty exit, most of them losing their personal effects and some everything. Owing to the splendid force of water tho Brigade confined the fire to the premises in which it originated, and saved, the back portion of the hotel, but the front was completely gutted. The origin is a mystery. The insurances total *£5700. , , , Tho insurances on Dosehler s building in tho Royal, South British, North German and Commercial Union amount to jgIOOO each, tho stock in the New Zealand JE2OO ; furniture, New Zealand, Norwich Union and Commercial Union, .£SOO each ; tho private effects of boarders, *£3so in tho South British ; total, *£6050. The loss will probably exceed that amount.
