SAN FRANCISCO,,, January 8. I-i. L. Hemmingway, oi Montreal, who is interested in the extension of the Grand Trunk Railway across Carada, 'is visiting California. Kega.'ding the projected enterprise, he said : “ Vice-President and General Manager I-larp, of the Grand Trunk, will have much to say in the councils of the new company which is to construct the extension, costing fuiiy one hundred million dollars and consuming five years to build. In a gcucrai way,] i'L can be stated that the route of the new road will be twa hundred miles north of the Canadian Pacific line, and will traverse the provinces and districts of Ontario Keewatin, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Athabaska, and British Columbia. Surveying parties are already in the field, and there is no question, as to the final successful outcome of this great undertaking. Mr Hays figures out that the new road will reduce the travelling distanee from Yokohama to Liverpool 1500 miles. The Grand Trunk and its Pacific coast extension will build steamships to run in connection with it on both the Atlantic and the Pacific.
