COUNTY ENGINEER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington last night. A. W. Newton, of Maryborough, Queeusland, has boen appointed engineer and inspector of the Hutt County Council. SUPPOSED SALMON. *■ The Marine Department is sending to London, for identification, the supposed salmon recently caught at Motueka. i/- SCHOLARSHIPS.
Four scholarships offerod by St. Patg rick’s College for public competition were won by B. Holly, E Casey, and D. Mad den, all of Wellington, and P. Kavanagb, of Masterton. A GOOD RETURN. During the month of December, 4188 persons arrived in the colony, and 1415 took their departure. The figures for December, 1901, are 3307 and 1500 respectively.
