FATAL ACCIDENT.

HON. J. CARROLL’S SISTER

KILLED.

Wairoa, yosterday. Mrs Williams, sister of the Hon. J. Carroll, and Miss B. Sargisson, wont for a drive on Saturday evening, to call on Mrs White, sister of Mrs Williams. Miss Sargisson got out of the gig to open the gate, and when closing it the horßo kicked and bolted furiously. Mrs Williams threw the reins down and jumped out, sustaining a heavy fall. She died in twenty minutes from a fractured skull and shock to the system. An inrjuost was hold yesterday, and a verdict of accidental death returned. Tho deceased lady leaves tbreo sons and two daughtors, who are grown u;>. Tho Hon. J. Carroll arrived this morning, and the funeral will take place this afternoon. The Hon. J. Carroll heard of Mrs Williams’death about noon on Sunday, and loft by spociul train at 4.30 p.m. He reachod Napier at 1.30 a.m. and Wairoa at 6 a.m. He was accompanied by his privato secretary and Mr J. of Gisborne. Mr Carroll desires to mention with appreciation tho services of the Act-ing-Postmaster, Mr A. S. Pirani, and tho officials who made all arrangornont3 for his movements. Mr Sheridan leaves for Gisborne to-morrow, and Mr Carroll leaves for Gisborne in a day or two.
