A NARROW ESCAPE

{Per Press Association.) Christchurch, lost night. About 4 a.m. to-day, when Constablo Treahy was passing through the Cathedral Square, ho discovered an old age pensioner, George Womens, in a fire tank hanging on to the railings. His coat and waistcoat wer:i hanging on the railings outside. The man was in a very exhausted state from immersion, and was nearly drowned. The conitablo romovcd him to the hospital, where ho is getting on satisfactorily.
