The Lord Mayor presided at a meeting of influential citizens in the Town Hall to initiato a fund for the relief of the droughtsuffering settlers. lie announced that they had already received £BOO towards the fund, chiefly from New Zealand and Tasmania. The Primate and others made strong appeals on behalf of settlers, and gave harrowing details of the sufferings and losses. A considerable amount was subscribed in tho room.
