FURTHER DETAILS.

A VERY SAD STORY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Particulars concerning tho tragedy at North East Valley showed that Mrs Mayhead was 36 years of ago. She is the wife of a carpenter who was formerly a contractor ; a superior woman, well spoken of by her neighbors, and on the best of terms with her husband. A Church of England clergyman had visited tho house, and shortly afterwards she told her little girl to go out and play with the baby tvhilo she did sorno work. Some time later tho girl returned, hut could not fiud her mother. She noticed the bathroom door locked. Tho girl went to a neighbor, and asked for her mother. On mentioning about tho bathroom door being locked neighbors wont to tho house. The door was forced open, and tho woman aud her little boy, fivo years old, were found dead in the hath. Medical aid was at ouco sent for, but without avail. It is understood that since tho last child was bom the unfortunate woman has suffered from delusions and insomnia, and was being medically attended. It is supposed that insomnia lod to her miud becoming unhinged. The husband, who works in a sawmill, was a little lato in getting homo ; othorwiso he might have arrived in timo to prevent the tragedy.
