POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB’S DOUBLE SCULLS.
Tho final in the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s double scull competition eventuated last evening, the trophy being photos donated by Mr B. S. Cox. The rival crews were :
V. Somervell J. Smith A. W. Kirk, 3 sec R. Dookins, 3 sec Both boats were despatched to an even start, but Kirk and Somervell soon secured a lead, and at- the Hospital were half a length to the good. Donkins and Smith, who were keeping excellent time, gradually caught- their opponents, and by the time Rees’s was passed the boats were on level terms. A sharp spurt to the bridge followed, resulting in Donkins's crew shooting the arches with a slight lead. Opposite the jetty the leaders increased their advantage to half a length. Pulling down the river Donkins and Smith slowly but surely increased their lead. Kirk and Somervell were pulling well together, and tried hard to come to even terms, but Donkins and Smith appeared to be taking no chances, and paeeed the post winners by uyer a length,
