TOKOMARU.
The sports on Boxing Day were a success in every way. Mr K. Jlcwits,m is to lie congratulated on the handicapping, lie having brought about some exceedingly close finishes in the kill races. The caterer, Mr A. (' Forrester, with the very able assistance of Mr D. J. Thornton, provide i everything imaginable in eatables and temperance drinks, and judging from the crowds of people attending the sports, the spec, must have been a good one. Mr 11. H. Fairlic. the secretary, upon-whom as usual the bulk of the work fell, had all the business welt in hand, and deserves great praise for the way he got through the long programme, all the events being post entries. Mr G. I-lindmarsh and Mr Wi Potac acted as judges, and on two or three occasions had some difficulty in deciding who was winner, the three first men being so close. The Maiden Race was won by, 1. G Buchanan, Wood being second. Boys Race : J, Kennedy 1, G, Oates 2, 100yds Championship: A. ,Smith 1, Buchanan 2, Hewilson 3, McKay 4. This was a very good race, and had been looked forward to for some time with great interest. The Hop, Step, and Jump resulted in a lie between I-icwilson and Charlie Jacob, with J. Ferris 3. Ferris, the set natch mail, jumped -12 ft. 'Pile first event of the Tokomaru son Ayd, McKay, 3yds, 2, Buchanan, Handicap, 100yds, was won by Hewitiyd, 3. Throwing the cricket ball was won bv W. McNeill, Oliver MeLachlan being 2nd. The winner threw the ball about 30yds. Three-legged Race : Smith and Henderson 1, Ferris and White 2, Second event of Tokomaru Handicap 200yds, was won by Buchanan, 7ds": Smith, uvds, 2nd ; Bruce, 20yds s 'cigar and Umbrella Race: Tun Mulligan won easily, Wilson 2nd. High Jump : Stewart McDonald, Sin 1 ; D-. Bruce, oin, 2 ; C. Jacob, tin’ arid D. Hcwitson, scr., lying for third place. Half-mile Race: T. Healey 1, W. McDonald 2. Only three started. Hgg and Spoon Race : W, Oates 1, G. Oates 2. Hurdle Race : 11, Gordon won eas--11 Costume Race : G. Oates 1, W, Third - " event Tokomaru Handicap. 300yds : Turi Mulligan, 10yds, 1 ; McKay. 12yds, 2 ; Buchanan, scr . 3. Buchanan having gained the most points, thus won the handicap. Horse Jumping, steeplechase style, was won by Maori Boy, with Duckling second. Beta Mulligau won the Tilting at the Ring, and Turi Mulligau was second. In the Horse Jumping event, Mr Buchanan, riding Silver Vase, got a nasty fall. The marc swerved, and hitting t. 1 '- c M-ucr of the jump, came down. . , .. . This concluded a most interesting and pleasant day a sgort, not a hitch of any sort occurring to ufl the day’s pleasure. The settling up was got through the same evening, and a small balance was left over to add t" the amount in hand for recreation ground purposes.
