Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, last night. The application of Mr A. D. Willis, on behalf of. the Wanganui and Wellington account-hook manufacturers, to have Auckland firms brought under their award, was dismissed in tite Arbitration Court this morning, on the ground that the Act stipulated that. it. must he shown that a majority both of employers and workers of the Unions were bound. Judge Cooper said it, was evident the Act in this respect, was very detective. The petition for upsetting the Grey Lynn election has been withdrawn, and it, is probable the Parnell petition will also be withdrawn. FEILDING, last night. A six-roomed house occupied by John Watson, and owned by L. V. ISrowne, was totally destroyed by tire at 3 o’clock this morning. The insurance on the building was £2OO in the Commercial Union, and on furniture £IOO in the Royal Exchange, and £37 in the National. Nothing was saved. HAWERA, last night. At the meeting ot the Executive of the National Dairy Association, Mi C R. Beattie resigned the position of secretary, which was accepted with great ILKI e( wA aNUI, last might. A well-known farmer at Wanganui named William Ritchie, and his wile had a miraculous escape from death this morning. While driving into town down St. .Johns liill, the occupants either did not sec or hear the whistle of an approaching train, and at lhe crossing i.l collided with the vehicle The horse had his two front ] c „-s broken and the trap smashed in two, the occupants escaping wit li scarcely a scratch. ' WELLINGTON, last night. The Post understands that in order to prevent a recurrence of the oiTtlircitk of anthrax in Southland the Government will erect a plant at the lilull for sterilising imported hones.
