Pool, McLeod and RuuencK’s fiaudicap securing tfiem an advantage of nearly tfireo-quarters of a length. Wnen fairly going it was seen that Kirk and Somervell were overhauling their opponents, and when the boats arrived opposite Warren’s both crews were on level terms. Kirk’s crew now gradually drew ahead, and passing the footbridge had half a length to the good. McLeod’s crew spurted, and at the jetty had reduced Kirk’s lead to a quarter of a length. The pace now livened, and passing Barton’s the leaders had secured a further advantage, being three-quarters of a length in advance. Both strokes then called on their bows for a final spurt, and a ding-dong “go” to the post resulted. McLeod and Roderick slowly crept on the opposing craft, lessening the distance gradually from three-quarters to a quarter of a length, and as they were endeavoring to get on even terms the boats passed the post, Kirk and Somervell securing a hard-fought victory by less than a quarter of a length. This evening the final will take place, when a splendid race is anticipated. The competing crews will be V. Somervell J, Smith
A. W. Kirk, 3 sec B. Donkins, 3 sec
