DEVASTATION OF CROPS,
SHEET OF IRON PERFORATED IN FIFTY PLACES.
(Per Press Association.)' Christchurch, last night. The hailstorm at Choviot was surprisingly local, but very disastrous to noruo of the crops. One ficM of 200 acres of oats, estimated to yield eighty bushels to tho aero, was absolutely ruined, and other fino crops in tbo track of tho storm woro devastated.
A beautiful orchard was absolutely stripped of fruit and tho trooa denuded of branches.
Ono sheet in a galvanisod iron roof was perforated in fifty places. Tho hailstones wore very large, several avernging four incheß in circumferoncc, and weighing thirteen to tho pound. A rough estimate of tho damage to the it at £llO9O. A few of the turnip and rape crops wore badly knocked about.
