CHRISTCHURCH, last night,

News has been received of a phenomenal hailstorm at Cheviot on Saturday evening. Many of the hailstones* are said to have been almost the size of hems eggs, and along the track of the storm, which did not cover a wide area, crops were devastated, scores of windows were smashed, corrugated iron roofs dented, and in some cases perforated.
