Taranaki, is soft. The weather is showery. Williams replaced Sianning in the EngA team, and Whatman stands out. klcCurthy captains Taranuki. Taranulti won the toss and elected to bat, opening with Pratt and Crawshaw. At tbo request of the Englishmen Taranaki will only field with 1C men, and bat with IS. Pratt and Crawshaw both played confidently, and 81 was put on before a separation was effected, Pratt losing his wicket to Thompson, after scoring 12, including a hit over the fence. The bowling oi Thompson and Hargreaves was good. F. Robertson joiaod Crawshaw. Dowsori went on in placoof Hargreaves, but Crawshaw welcomed the change. Shortly afterwards Hargreaveß went on at Thompson’s ond and the latter replaced Howson, Robertson was uncomfortable at first, but settlod down, and with Crawshaw carried the score to 00, when rain temporarily interrupted play.
