AUCKLAND SPECIAL.

(Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, last night. An interesting game of howls was played on Mr Kirkcr’s green yesterday afternoon between a Gisborne rink and four representatives from the Ponsunby Club,, The Gisborne rink included Messrs’ Jfwerson, (Jarroll, Ganelin, and Coleman (skip), and the Ponsonby team Messrs Quinu, Buchanan, Court, and Kirkcr. The game was twenty-five head up, and throughout was most exciting, Gisborne ultimately winning by 2d to 17. On the tenth head Ponsonby had S to their opponents 4. The play was of an excellent character, and in eight of the ten heads only a single point was scored. On the fifteenth head the scoring card showed ten all, hut on the eighteenth head the Ponsonby men had fourteen and their opponents ten. Gisborne then got to work in good style, and were level with their opponents on the twentieth head, and had a lead of one on the twenty-first head. On the twenty-second and twenty- third heads Gisborne scored seven points, and ultimately won by 2d to 17 points. The Auckland and Newmarket Clubs are anxious to meet the visitors, but Mr Coleman is leaving for Te Aroha to-morrow, and his services will not he available. Auckland is very full of visitors at present, including many Gisborneites up for the races. Tauliei ran very badly in the Welter Handicap on Monday, finishing last in a large field. Better things are expected of her in the Hurdles, and with the handy impost of 9.1.0, the daughter of Castor should give the Gisborne contingent a big run for their money. (The acceptances show that Tauliei is not on the list.) Several Gisborne sports who arrived by the Mokoia on Monday had good luck at the races, each netting over £IOO. The Town Clock Fund is likely to be augmented on their return,
