DESTRUCTION OF TIMBER.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, last night. Daniols’ woodwaro factory, carpenters’ shop, and one thousand pounds worth of timber were destroyed by fire at three o’clock on Christmas morning. Only four months ago tho factory was extended, the latost up-to-date machinery being added. Many bands have been temporarily thrown out of employment, and the fire has inconvenienced large contracts in hand. Mr Jos. Dixon’s dwcllinghouso alongside suffered considerable damage. Mr Daniels estimates his loss at £SOOO. The insurance on factory and plant is—Royal £SO, London and Lancashire £650, Alliance £IOO, total £I2OO. Thero is a covering risk on tho timber in tbo yard of £7OO in tho Royal. Dixon’s insurances are : Building, Royal, £350 ; furniture, Victoria, £155. Daniells’ factory only cloaned up for tho holidays on Wednesday afternoon. The origin of tho fire is a mystery.
