AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE.

PLUCKY ACTION OF ME HUSTON

At a quarter past five last evening there was an exciting experience at the Taruheru traffic bridge. A horse attached to a spring cart, owned by >.- Arundel, bolted fiorn the gasworks, and made across tho bridge. There was a number of children about at the time, and Mr Millington made a plucky attempt to divert the horse in its course to the bridge. He was unsuccessful, and narrowly °escaped being run down; but he succeeded in somewhat slackening the pace of the runaway. Mr J. Huston was driving his pair of chesnuts and cab from Whataupoko. He saw the danger, but on the narrow way there was no chance of escape. He had got as far as tiie swing of the bridge, and as the runaway neared his team he jumped from the box of the eab and ran to meet the bolting horse He caught the reins a yard or so off, but too late to stay the impact, and one of his own team was knocked right over, whilst the other was dashed to one side. Mr Iluston clung on to the runaway and managed to back him clear, by which time help arrived. His own horses apparently had not suffered much injury. At the time of the collision vehicles were approaching the bridge from either end. The brave action of Mr Huston is worthy of the warmest commendation, the marvel being that he himself escaped injury,
