Ponsford, who bavo boon in Auckland for tho past few wooks, roturn to Gisboruo by tbo Waikaro this afternoon. At tho monthly meeting of Turanganui Lodge, list), D.C., official information was received from District Grand Secretary, fire. W. W. Daw, continuing tbo appointment of JJro. J. A. Harding, P.IU., us-Past District Senior Grand Warden. Tbo W.M. and brotbren congratulated Bro. Harding, with hearty good wishes on bis attainment to this high honor, and trusted that bo would bo long spared to enjoy tbo degreo bo bad so well merited. Bro. Harding suitably and sinceroly thaukod tbo officers and brethren for their high appreciation. At tbo sarno fcimo bo pointed out that the soloction cauio as a surprise, considering lie had boon selectod as'ono from many highly eligiblo Masons. 11c considered a vory high compliment had been paid to Turauganui Lodgo in placing tbo honor on ono of their uumbor. Ho trusted to uphold to bis utmost tbo honor and responsibility thus conferred upon him. Mr Hugh Wallace, the well-known representative of tho Auckland lirm of Messrs L. H- Nathan and Go., arrived in Gisborno yesterday, having ridden through from Tauranga via the Goastal townships. His many friends in tins district will regret to bear that this ia his last bußiuoss trip to the Bast Coast, as bo will in future travel in that part of tbo provineo north of Auckland. Mr Walluco is 0110 of tho oldest and most popular travellers coming to Gisborne, and for years past he has been accustomed to travel overland from Paeroa and Tauranga to Gisborne. Ho lias been visiting Gisborno and Coasta districts for close on tweuty-ouo years, and has a knowledge of tho country that is possessed by very few persons Jiving here. Mr Wallace can relato many exciting instances of tbo daugors attached to travelling from Opotiki to Gisborno by way of tho Coast, and ho bus had many thrilling experiences since bo lirst made this trip. His genial faeo will bo much missed by all old residents on the Coast, and we are sure that they will all join with us in wishing him every prosperity. His placo is to bo filled by Mr Murray, late of Robjohns and Company, Napier. As mentioned in our issuo of last Thursday, Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co. aro extending their operations on the Baßt Coast, and Mr Murray has been permanently appointed to Gisborne, from which place lie will work all country districts. The firms many clients will thus bo much better catered for, and we are sure that Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co. will add to tlie already large and extensive business that Mr Wallaeo has built up for them. We wish the firm every succoss. At tho Patutalii school yesterday tho Rev. Canon Box, who is leaving tho district, was presented with a very handsome book, entitled “ Tho Ono Hundred Best Pictures in tho World,” together with an excellent fountain pen. The book boro the following inscription : “ Presented to tho Rev. Canon Box, M.A., as a token of lovo and esteem by tho children of hia Patutalii Bible-class on tho occasion of hia leaving the district, Patutahi, Poverty Bay, Deo. 10, 1002.” The presentation was made by Mr Woodward, headmaster of the school, who remarked that he waa very happy to be able to toll Canon box that the presentation was made entirely on the children’s own initiative,. <? subscription list being opened and L .. entirely by themselves. Tho children bud wished him to express their sincere sorrow at losing one who bad been so good a friend to them. Canon Box said that ho would always prize the handsome prosont, and would never forget tho many pleasant hours spent with tho Patutahi school children.
