ANNIVERSARY OF CANTERBURY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. To-day, tho 02nd anniversary day of tho province, was observed as a close holiday in the city. The chief attractions are the opening of the section of tho Wai-para-Cheviot railway from Waipara to Scargill, the Racing Club’s meeting, the Akaroa Regatta, and the New Zealand Wheel Race Meeting. The weather was very wet this morning, but cleared up at mid-day. There were a large number of visitors to all the sports meetings.
