RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night.

The Canterbury Collego Board of Governors again considered the system of giving religious instructions out of the school hours in the Boys’ High School, and decided to grant the heudinastor permission to carry on tho present classes, suhjoct to certain regulations.

Tho intorest taken in tho day to ho fixod for the half-holiday in Christchurch and suburbs centred in the City Council meeting this evening, when tho delegates were appointed to attend the conference to decide the question. Tho Council was deluged with petitions and deputations, somo urging Saturday arid some Thursday. On tha suggestion of tho Mayor, the Council decided not to givo its delegate any instructions, as it wus considered unfair to ask other delegates to attend the conference when the decision was a foregone conclusion, as the Council was allowed to appoint tho majority of the delegates.
