In the House of Commons Mr Chamberlain sai 1 he much regretted the action of the Dutch Reformed Church in regard to ldevs. .Volk and liotha, which was calculated to delay the union and prosperity of South Africa, lie believed the reports of boycotting the National Scouts had been exaggerated. The matters would have his careful attention. The Imperial Government had expressly informed Sir G. The Trades' Union Congress adopted resolutions in favor of a legal eight hours a day for all occupations wherever practicable, uniform factory legislation, providing special provisions for hours, conditions insanitary, dangerous occupation, stamping of furniture made by Asiatics, proper system of apprenticeship, and paying living wages to juveniles. Another resolution favored the various States immediately acquiring and working all coal mines necessary for their requirements. They were further strongly of opinion that the whota coalmining ina -try should bo nationalised. Mr Tom igisSai 1.-was warmly welcomed.
