MR LSNAR’S PAMPHLET.
(To tho Editor of the Times),
Sir, —I havo just road tho above work, and am strongly confirmed in my intention to vote “No License ” by Bio statements contained in it. In tho first place the word “ prohibition ” occurs vory frequently, and iu almost overy instaneo it is used in a senso which is utterly false, there bciug at prosent no question of prohibition beforo tho electors, but simply whether certain persons shall continuo to havo a monopoly of tho liquor trade. On pago 22 a doctor is represented as saying, •• j am aware that the practice in Tapanui is much less than it was before "N License ” was carried.” That is, that people aro not so sick as they used tn h* when the pubs were open, which is highly probable. Also, altb nigh it is not so staled, is it likely that lawyers are not do inn quite so well, which is a dreadful mis fortune for any community, Gonorsl business is also depressed, it being well known that beer, etc., is tho only really efficient lubricant for tho wheels of in dustry and comtnorco. It is stated that if ■- No license ” is carried people will send away for liquor to other places. This may or may not be, but oven if they do their d ink will cost them less than half what it docs now. But will they ? Many a ono will muddle away a lot of monoy in shillings and sixpences in a bar who will not mustor To to send for a j tr of whisky. Mr Lysnar deserves the thanks of the public for his porsistont stirring up of this unsavory business. Ho is tho best friend tho "No Licenso ” party have. If ho is really battling for tbo publicans ho has servod tho tern eranec cause as cortain of our generals served tho Boor cause in the late war. For ono. -I am, etc., Grateful,
