WOOL SALES
LARGE ATTENDANCE AND GOOD COMPETITION.

Tho first of the present Benson’s wool sales was held to day. There was a large attendance of botli local and foreign buyers. Tho catalogue consisted of 4034 bales, as against 4363 ball s for the cuiresponding sale of last season. There were virtually no largo station clips on offer, and super, merino wus conspicuous by its absence. Tho bulk of tho wool, however, came forward in fair to good condition. Tho sales opened briskly, a much better tono prevailing in coarse wools than was expected after tho unsatisfactory news as to tho London woul sales. Tho following aro tho quotations : —Greasy merino, mudiuin to go.>d 74<1 to Dijd per lb, inferior (iijd to 74e1, medium to 7LI, inferior 5d to Ojil; greasy crossbred, superior Od to GJd, medium 5d to Old, inferior lid to 4i|d ; greasy longwoul, auporior Old to ff.fd, inferior 3d to Od ; groasy pieces and bellies, good Old to 7d, inferior 2d to 4d ; greasy locks, Id to O ld.
