METHODIST SYNOD. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, last night. Tho Methodist Synod'met this morning, The Revs. Cook, Duck, Scotter, and Godbehor, probationers, wore recommended to pass in their years. Reports were receive! from Ihe theological and mathematical tutors. The report of tho Conference Committee on tho rights of laymen in annual conference was introduced, aud consideration deferred until tho assembling of tho laymen to-morrow.
NEWTON SEAT, Mr Barber was nominated to-day for Newton. DISMASTED BRIGANTINE. Tho brigantine Eliza Firth was towed to port to-day, with tho foremast and jibboom gone. The mast v/as cut away during a gale on Friday night, to prevent tho vessel running ashore near LoDg Island.
