At tho Education Board’s meeting today Miss Brown was appointed pupil tca-her and Mr Crawford lirst assistant to the Gisborne school. An application for additional grant for works was left to the Chairman. A request from the High School Governors for permission to erect a technical school on tho Board's ground was granted. Makauri: Committee to be informed tbat the Board had voted dUO for tho purchase! of a site for teacher’s residence.
Patutabi: Mr Hill’s recommendation as to fencing to be adopted. Tokomaru : The question of procuring a site for the school was deferred. Te Karaka’s request for more school accommodation was received, also Wao-renga-a-liika’s application for a teachers’ residence. The midsummer holidays were fixed for December 18tii to January olst, inspector Hill reported that tho schools along the East Coast were in unsatisfactory positions, and suggested the Department should tako over the native schools in native districts, or givo adequate grants for their maintenance. It was decided that the report be forwarded to the Department.
Notice was given for the next meeting of tho following motion: “ That all districts having schools with an average attendance of over i’O bo gazetted."
