ROWING

GISBORNE ROWING CLUB

Tho final of the abovo Club’s first set of trial fours for medals, presented by Mr Cramoud, was rowed last evening. The weather was anything but fine ; however, tho crews got to tho mark in good time. Mr Cramond (a Vice-President) acted as judr-e. The crews were : —Hansen (stroke), H. “Bright (3), Bennett (2), L. Shorriff (how), S. Coleman (cox) v. C. Adair (stroke), Dr Fisher (3), F. Shaw (2), B. Bright (bow), Warren (cox.) Both crews got away fairly well together, and were on equal terms for a short way, when Adair’s crew commenced to show their superior condition, and forged ahead for about half a length. When approaching the footbridge Hansen sought an opportunity of making a splendid dash, which brought him well up to his opponent. Adair again got to work, and was soon leaving his opponent in the rear, his men responding gallantly to every appeal. Coming round the bend of tho river opposite Mr Barton's, Hansen made another rally, but

seeing his chance was hopeless, gave up the pursuit, consequently Adair won t>y about- three lengths, and was heartily applauded bv the spectators. Mr A. Robinson, hon. secretary, called for three cheers for Mr Cramond, to which all responded heartily.
