FOUR UAFES PROVE USELESS'

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Tauranga, last night,

The block known as the Government buildings, about 120 feet long, and two storeys in height, was completely destroyed by fire last night. The flames were first seen at 11.20, issuing from the centre window of the upper storey at the back. The building was 28 years old, and the llames spread with great rapidity. In the buildings were the offices of the Post and Telegraph Department, Public Trustee, Customs, Stock, Land and Survey Department, S.M. Court, Native Court, ! Borough, and County Council, and ; Registrar cf Electors, i All the the records were destroyed. Of | the six safes in the building; only two ! proved of any use, being the ones used. : by the Returning Officer and the Registrar. Sufficient rolls were saved for the purnoses of the election, but all the other electoral papers were destroyed. The Native Coui'l war advertised to be the principal polling place, ba£ ha 3 been destroyed. ■
