Death of Mr R. Hursthouse.
By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, last night. Mr R. Hursthouse, one of the candidates for the Egmont seat, died at the Hospital this evening. He had been sinking sinco Sunday under an attack of pneumonia. Deceased was born at New Plymouth in 1845, and took part as a lieutenant in the militia in the Maori war, afterwards settling at Motueka, which constituency he represented three “times, being defeated subsequently consequent on the change of boundaries. He also unsuccessfully contested the Nelson seat against Mr Graham. For many years he was a member of the Education and Land Boards at Nelson, and for a short while was Minister of Lands. He also filled the otEce of Mayor of Mayor of Motueka. He was an excellent speaker and a man of business, and greatly respected and esteemed.
