FIELD FOR TRADE
By Telegraph—Press Association. Manaia, yesterday. In the course of an interview with tho Waimatc Witness, Mr H. Good, who recently returned from a visit to the East, says there is a splendid field for New Zealand to exploit if they go tho proper way to work. He does not believe in forcing trade, and predicts for the colonies dismal failure if large consignments are forwarded for a start. He found the Ja panose very fond of meat, hut prohibitive prices ruled. These would he considerably modified if frozen meat were available. He thinks that a direct trade should be opened up : at first with Hongkong, where there is a big demand ior meat, butter, and other produce we could supply. He considers there is a good market in Japan for our wool. The Australian merino wool fetched from Is to Is -Id. If New Zealand could send crossbreds he thinks they would c-omul-md a ready and largo sale. Mr Good, who is the private produce exporter in tho colony, is so much impressed with the possibilities that he is despatching a shipment himself.
