The Government amendments to the Education Bill, providing that municipal or county councils shall appoint local education committees and delegate thereto any of the councils’ powers other than financial, were adopted. The amendments further provide that rating and borrowing be reserved to the councils. The latter consult the committees on tho subject, but tho councils are free to disregard the recommendations of the committees. Tho Liberals welcomed the modifications, also the clauso providing that a majority of the committee bo members of tho council, unless tho council decided otherwise. EIGHT MILLIONS BILL.
