Tho Ventnor’s .crew state that the steamer’s stern had risen out of tho water when the order was given* to man the boats on Tuesday evening,»as the steamer was then ready to sink.
Tho look-out man states that he saw tho land a little beforo the steamer struck, but the light on the Point was not visible, being low. Bailio, second engineer, is of the opinion that the stuamo'r’s bottom was completely perforated. Tho tank and top-sides alone kept tho 6teamcr afloat long before she foundered.
RETURN OF TUG STERLING.
NO SIGN OF THE MISSING BOAT,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auokland, last night. A messago from Ivaipara Heads states that the tug Sterling returned this morning, alter three days' search for the Vent-nor’s missing beat. Slto went as far as the North Cape. Nothing was seen of tho boat or crew.
