CELEBRATED CYCLIST.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The Secretary of the Christchurch Cycling Club has received a cable from W. Martin, the celebruted cyclist, stating that he intends making a cycling tour of the colony after the Austral Meeting. FALSE STATEMENTS.

At Lyttelton to-day two men named Alexander Brain and Edward Nelson were convicted ami discharged for makiog false statements in claims for enrolment. The former had not been 12 months in the colony, and the latter was not a British subject. The Registrar did not press fora heavy penalty, and it was shown that Nelson had informed the police when he found he was not entitled to be enrolled.

SPORTING. Melwood was scratched for the New Zealand Cup at 5.50 p.m. to-day.
