FARMERS’ UNION.
FROZEN MEAT TRADE. [BI TEUKOItiPn. — PUKHJ ASSOCIATION.] Timaru, last night. A meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday discussed the position of tho Union in lelation to disputes, und appointed delegates to confer with the North Canterbury Executive on the subject. _ An improvement of the conditions of tho frozen meat trade was also discussed. Mr A. Cleland reported the result of presenting his scheme to the House of Representatives’ Committee, for the Government to guarantee against loss on shipment to provincial ports in the United Kingdom. Mr C. Urbell restated the scheme he brought forward five years ago for controlling the whole business by advisory boards in the colony and London, arid it was stated that five farmers’ co-operative associations in Napier, Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, and Invercargill have a conference next week on the subject of the meat trade.
Two members reported an interview with the Premier on the subject at Christchurch.
It vvus decided to take no action regarding the list of questions proposed by the Colonial Executive to bo put to candidates, many bc-ing unsuitable. The discussion on the frozen moat trade was not completed, and is to be resumed fit a general meeting oi fanners and others interested in the trade ft month honce.
