DEPUTATIONS AT NEW PLYMOUTH

Sir Joseph Ward received a deputation from the Borough Council on Saturday, asking for an esplanade along tdo front of too reclamation works, ut the railway station, and fur a street, necessitated by these works ; also for the sito for a hand rotunda, all of which he promised to look into. The party inspected tho proposed site for the post-office, and also the present building. Sir J. Ward said the department were ready to make tho necessary improvements, but he would not give a thousand pounds to any other site -va New Plymouth. A deputation from tho Scenery Preservation Society also waited upon Sir J. Ward in respect to tho preservation of scenery on the Mokau river. Sir Joseph Ward said that he would bring tho matter before the Cabinet, and direct tho Tourist Department to make an inspection. The Tutanekai leaves at eight to night with Sir J. Ward, Messrs Ronayne, BarroD, Gaw, and Mr McOardle, who has been here in conneeiion with contemplated contest for the Egmont seat, but who has now withdrawn in favor of Mr Jennings, who had a successful meeting of supporters at Inglewood yesterday.
Sir J. Ward states that the last information from Mr Seddon was that the latter stated he would cull at Hobart, for which reason partly Sir J. Ward is now waiting) here.
